In my view, much of the modern-day media posturing by coverage makers and pundits about the failure of U.S. Schools and universities to properly prepare people for the twenty-first administrative center is either sick-informed or misguided.
One of the dominant narratives within the media is that we want to provide more employees who can do anything that is needed now, using quick-term postsecondary certification applications. The focus is usually on “vocational” talents, contrasted with what is often characterized as extraordinarily useless liberal education results, consisting of information on worldwide records and cultures and different “indulgences,” which includes crafting understandable prose and judging the integrity and application of statistics.
To make it less complicated for employers to perceive able people, a litany of badges, certificates, and so forth will purportedly sign proficiency. Abbreviating postsecondary practice packages can also nicely reduce quick-time period fees for students, institutions, and plenty of employers. However, privileging brief-time period activity training over annoying academic studies associated with high stages of intellectual, non-public, and social improvement — a foundation for continuous lifestyle learning — is a terrible idea for individuals, for the long-term power of the American financial system, and our democracy.
