ABC partners with US media literacy enterprise to fight faux news

The ABC has joined forces with one of the United States’ leading schooling companies for the second annual Media Literacy Week, to fight the spread of spin, misinformation and “faux information” around the sector.

The inaugural partnership between the ABC and National Association for Media Literacy Education (NAMLE) will equip college students and teachers with the talents to turn out to be essential thinkers, effective communicators and active residents in a generation of mass media, famous lifestyle and digital technology.

The 2019 Media Literacy Week, from 21-25 October, will function special activities throughout Australia and the USA to assist navigate the information panorama, inclusive of:
News Champions Youth Forum: Australian students will lead a dialogue on how news can support and engage young people, in a -day media literacy summit at the Museum of Australian Democracy.
Fighting fake news: Education professionals at Washington’s Newseum will hold a loose virtual webinar to be had to Australian instructors on sorting fact from fiction.
Media makers panel: ABC Education and the Australian Council for Educational Leadership will host an occasion for teachers on the challenges of reporting in technology of false facts, presenting ABC News Breakfast host Michael Rowland, presenter Benjamin Law, and RMIT/ABC Fact Check’s Sushi Das.
